Brief history

Mail was first available in Crane in 1895 with Henry Turner being the first Postmaster.  The railroad came to Crane in 1916.  The town was named after Crane Creek & Crane Creek Gap.  The Crane boarding school was established in 1923 and is still in operation.

Crops and soil

Crops grown in the Crane area consist of rye, alfalfa, barley, and oats.  The ground is good for growing gardens, the growing season is from late May to September.

 

 
 

Climate

The climate in the winter is moderate with heavy winds blowing most of the time.  The summer is nice and not too hot. The temperatures range in the 90's.  The weather is similar to Burns.
